Manokaran Mottain was appointed as a Working Member of the National Economic Council for two years effective 1 August 2011. He is also a member of 11MP and 12MP panel for the Indians, under MIC and MITRA respectively. In 2015, Mr. Manokaran was the Organising Chairman of a national conference on Growth & Inclusiveness – Transformation of Malaysian Indians beyond 2020. Following this, he leads the Malaysian Indian Economic Transformation (MIET).
